The last two weeks have been an adventure as I've navigated the American medical system in ways new to me. Usually I go once a year for my regular check-up and that's it, but age catches up with us all and so comes the dreaded "list of tests". So yesterday I found myself in a lab (that shall remain nameless) getting a blood test (missed on my previous visit as the lab and doctor blamed each other) so I could continue on with a schedule (which had been thrown out of whack) of other test. I was contemplating the numerous awards and such on the wall (I was still waiting for the paid vampires to remove my much treasured hemoglobin) when I noticed hanging directly in front of me a framed certificate that read:Most Improved
I'm not making this up - it was awarded to the entire lab. I wonder what it takes to be awarded this kind of honor as health care professionals? And, since I was sitting in this place as a patient, should I have really found this so very funny?
