Capture

Digital Illustration using Adobe Illustrator

I spent this Saturday floating down the Monocacy River in a canoe with my husband. He was fishing. I had a rod and fishing license, but I was actually trying fairly hard (without trying to look like it) to NOT catch anything. To be truthful, I kinda like the excitement of "tricking" the fish with the lure (and this particular lure was hand made by my brother - very pretty and shiny). I like the challenge of trying to actually "land" the fish (which is a misnomer since I'm actually trying to get it in the boat). The problem is, like most artistic types, I have a very active imagination - and I feel really bad once I get the fish in and see the ugly barbed hook sticking out of it's mouth. It just looks so painful and scary to be trapped in such a fashion. This week's Illustration Friday topic made me think about that.

By the way, and we throw all the fish back in, so I like to think no fish were really harmed. I hope.

I really like your use of blues, and the gradation adds real movement to the sea.

Very creative, as usual. Hey, was the "porthole" idea planned or one of those happy coincidences? (I love it when those happen, that's why I'm asking!)

Ellen - the "porthole" was a happy coincidence. I just kept playing until it looked right to me.
