My friends and family north of the border will be happy to know I celebrated Canada Day right! Yes, Canada has it's own day and it is July 1 of every year. We got up early (for us) to head down to DC for an authentic "Stampede" breakfast at the Canadian Embassy - it was kind of a promotion for the Alberta at the Smithsonian display on the Mall. What is truly funny is that while I am from Alberta, I actually heard about this amazing events through some Aussie's we know - who heard about it from another Canadian friend who hails from the East! Anyway, our timing was good and we were able to slip into the shorter line for our pancakes and sausage. Yum! Then we met up with Marijke and Andrew (the Aussie's) to check out the Folklife Festival. Have to say, it was kind of interesting but not really spectacular. Maybe I am biased by being involved with the Arts Festival, which is much more cohesive.

From there, we headed out to Walkersville for the Festival Volunteer Appreciation BBQ put on by Derek at his farm. After playing croquet and volleyball, we were ready for ATV rides and a chance to just chill (made difficult at time when Derek radomly set off fireworks, he he). Later that night there was a huge bonfire (lit by fireworks - I have some very entertaining video footage of that process) and some really hysterical fireworks display. After such a long day of drinking and eating, I was ready to go home and catch some shut eye. As I drifted off to sleep I heard Dave whisper "I still can't believe Canada has it' s own day".
